Bayern Munich wonderkid Lennart Karl angers fans by admitting Real Madrid is his dream club
Bayern Munich are currently enjoying their winter break before returning to action with a friendly against RB Salzburg tomorrow. During the downtime, players have taken part in various activities. For Lennart Karl, that included a visit to a Bayern fan club in Burgsinn, near Frammersbach, his hometown.
When asked about his favourite club besides Bayern, Karl said: “FC Bayern is a very big club. It's a dream to play there. But at some point, I definitely want to go to Real Madrid. That's my dream club, but that stays between us. Of course, Bayern is something very special and it's a lot of fun.”
Karl’s comments may unsettle some Bayern supporters, as he is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in world football. Many fans have already expressed concern about the possibility of losing a homegrown star who could become the biggest product of Bayern’s academy since Thomas Müller. Real Madrid, meanwhile, would be an ideal destination for a player of Karl’s profile as they continue building the next generation of Galácticos.
Born in 2008, the German midfielder has already made his first-team debut, scoring six goals in 22 appearances. Operating mainly as a No.10, Karl has been providing support for Harry Kane in attack, filling in for Jamal Musiala, who is injured and could miss the remainder of the season.
Speaking about his young teammate, Kane said: “Lenny helps to open that space up because he’s so quick and so good on the ball and he can beat a defender. He’s similar to Jamal in that way, which has opened up games for us and has given him a chance to score and has given other people chances to score".
Despite Karl’s admiration for Real Madrid, Bayern are in a strong position to keep hold of him in the coming years. The youngster still has plenty of time to develop, and the club will look to secure his long-term future as they continue to nurture one of their most promising prospects.
