38-year-old Jamie Vardy makes history with Serie A Player of the Month award

Cremonese forward Jamie Vardy has won the Serie A Player of the Month award for his impressive performances. Notably, the striker - who turns 39 next month - is the first Englishman to receive this honour.

Jamie Vardy left the club in the summer after spending more than 10 years there. In the blue shirt, the former Leicester City captain made history by helping the team win the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season, scoring 24 goals. Now, just half a year after leaving Leicester, he continues to make history - this time with Cremonese.

Vardy has become an important part of Davide Nicola’s system, helping the promoted side stay mid-table in their first season back in Serie A. After 14 matches, Cremonese have earned 20 points from 5 wins, 4 draws, and 5 losses, scoring 18 goals and conceding 17. The 38-year-old striker has scored 4 goals so far this season, including a brace in a win against Bologna on December 2.

Vardy was chosen as Serie A’s Player of the Month based on analysis from Kama Sport, which evaluates statistical data, technical actions, and positional metrics. With these criteria, he earned the award - despite scoring only one goal in November - beating out players like Mike Maignan, Lautaro Martínez, David Neres, Leo Østigård, and Nicolò Zaniolo.

Luigi De Siervo, CEO of Serie A, commented: “Jamie Vardy is truly a player from another era - one of those talents who, through their history, achievements, and indomitable spirit in every match, best express the romance of football. His arrival at Cremonese, who quickly seized the opportunity this summer, was welcomed with great enthusiasm by Serie A fans, and Vardy is repaying them with top-level performances, innate leadership, and important goals.”

Surprisingly, since joining Serie A this season, Vardy has not changed his eating habits. After the win against Bologna, coach Davide Nicola revealed that Vardy still eats the same types of food he used to have in England. In 2022, fans were shocked to learn that the former Leicester captain enjoys foods often considered “unhealthy” for athletes - such as cheese and ham omelettes, pizza, coffee, port, and Red Bull. He is especially fond of Red Bull and once revealed that he drank one before a match.

Despite these habits, Vardy remains fit and continues to perform at the top level. The Englishman told Record: “We have individualised meals for everyone, whether it’s breakfast or dinner. There’s no longer a fixed menu. Cultures differ, needs differ - even due to allergies. Everyone has their own personal menu. I don’t control that; it’s part of the players’ lives. They usually eat here two or three times, sometimes even for dinner.”

Tomorrow, Vardy and Cremonese will face Torino at 9:00 PM (GMT+7). A win would help them maintain a position in the upper half of the table and close in on Juventus in seventh place.
